Community Gardens & Green Space

Mayoral Forum

New York City’s community gardens are once again under threat, as development pressures mount and political will falters. We must act now to ensure these vital green spaces are not sacrificed—they are essential to our city’s environmental justice, food security, and community health.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Join us for the Community Gardens Mayoral Forum. Hosted by the New York City Community Garden Coalition (NYCCGC) and Loisaida United Neighborhood Gardens (LUNGS), this timely forum invites mayoral candidates to share their vision for community gardens and environmental justice in NYC.

Moderated by renowned food justice advocate Karen Washington, the event will spotlight the vital role community gardens play in climate resilience, food sovereignty, and sustainable urban infrastructure. We'll confront the harmful narrative that gardens hinder affordable housing and explore strategies to protect greenspaces while supporting equitable urban growth.

This is a critical moment to reclaim the commons and demand bold leadership for a greener, more just New York City
