Two good funding opportunities are coming up to help NYC community garden groups cultivate more community in 2013.
Kitchen Gardeners International – due January 11, 2013 – info here
Citizens Committee for NYC – due January 31, 2013 – info here
Right before hurricane Sandy hit, we completed our last giveaway of the season at the East Harlem Community Garden. We gave trees, bushes, cover crop seeds, and bulbs to community gardeners from Harlem and East Harlem.
Green Guerillas gave away a great selection of bulbs, cover crop seeds, fruit trees, and berry bushes to East Village and Lower East Side community gardeners at our October 27th giveaway. Gardeners traded garden stories and enjoyed refreshments at the Neighborhood Preservation Center.
This summer our youth tillers partnered with Greenthumb AmeriCorps member, Matt Mili to help students and teachers at Bedford-Stuyvesant’s Boys and Girls High School break ground on a new urban farm. There are lots of ideas for the future, lots of places that can be converted into fertile spaces to grow food and build community. Green Guerillas will continue to explore ways to help keep the momentum going into 2013 and be part of this growing trend.
