The City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) recently published a list of 181 sites available for developers to build housing through their New Infill Homeownership Opportunities Program (NIHOP) and Neighborhood Construction Program (NCP). Seventeen of the selected sites are currently active community gardens, while more than 750 sites in HPD’s inventory were not included on the list.
Community gardeners are urging the City to remove the community garden sites from the development list.
The NYC Community Garden Coalition is organizing a rally on February 10th at 9 am on the steps of City Hall. Come out and show your support for community gardeners.
