who we serve

Green Guerillas provides important services to New York City’s grassroots community garden groups. These all-volunteer groups have undertaken the back breaking work of converting vacant, rubble-strewn city-owned land into community gardens. Each week these creative, determined neighborhood leaders provide important services to their neighbors. They connect city kids to the earth. They grow fresh food in neighborhoods with few supermarkets and long lines at soup kitchens. They cultivate green spaces and plant trees in neighborhoods with a dearth of parkland and high asthma rates. They give seniors a place to rest in the shade and people from all walks of life the opportunity to garden in the city. They manage living classrooms and outdoor community centers. And as they continue to turn to us for help, Green Guerillas will continue to work side by side with community garden groups to help them survive and thrive. They are the lifeblood of our City.

our supporters

As a private nonprofit organization, Green Guerillas receives support from a diverse group of people and organizations who share our commitment to grassroots action. 600 members from all walks of life support our work and 200 people attend our annual benefit party.  Foundations and corporations provide critical grant funding to allow us to work side by side with community garden leaders in every corner of our city.

Our deepest gratitude goes out to Fred Rosenstiel whose legacy of commitment to Green Guerillas continues with the Trust he created upon his passing.
